A technical study for a canopy (MArch project)
As part of my MArch studies this project explored the potential of reuse and recycling as a powerful design restraint and strategy. When reimagining and retrofitting existing structures, how can salvaged material generated from intervention be used to inform the nature of the intervention? Here, a masterplanning strategy for the proposed site (HMP Wormwood Scrubs, theoretically decommissioned) saw 1232 Portland stone window sills being removed from the original structure, my study questions how these stone sills can become the basis for an intriguing design proposal for a series of columns in the new proposal.
Thanks to tutors Sean Griffiths and Kester Rattenbury for helping guide the project and to masterplan collaborators Andreas Makris, Gosia Socha and Jacky Yomi.
